The K-State women's rowing team will travel to Texas to participate in the Big 12 Conference Invitational on Saturday. The one-day event will showcase rowing teams from K-State, Kansas and Texas.
"Our mentality is to go there to upset people," coach Patrick Sweeney said. "Texas is so deep that we will have to be at our best."
Races will start at 10 a.m., and the varsity, second varsity and novice 8+ teams will be the only Wildcat teams participating.
"We are just looking to improve every day," Sweeney said. "The team has been getting faster every day over the course of the season, and I am looking for each team to go out there on Saturday and take the next step."
Sweeney also said the team is still very young and the spring weather has been detrimental to its development, but he is happy with its progress.
"I am very pleased with how the team has raced with such little water time," Sweeney said. "They haven't used the weather as an excuse to hang their heads. This team has gone out and performed and that's all I could ask of them."
Following this weekend's event, the Wildcats will compete in the NCAA Central/South Regional on May 17.
