Volleyball fans are usually not the rowdiest, but coach Suzie Fritz said the K-State fans made the difference for her team this weekend.

The No. 15 Wildcats defeated Iowa State 3-1 (30-24, 30-26, 20-30, 35-33) Saturday at Ahearn Field House, grabbing possession of fourth place in the conference. K-State moves to 17-6 overall and 9-4 in the conference, while Iowa State falls to 7-5 in league play.

During a pivotal game four, the lead changed 12 times and nearly all 1,514 fans in attendance were on their feet yelling.

"I felt like they rallied around us and were making some noise when (Iowa State) was serving," Fritz said. "That gave us at least two or three points. Late in the match, they were the difference for us."

Four K-State players finished with double-digit kills, led by juniors Nataly Korobkova (15), Megan Farr (15), and Rita Liliom (14).

In the fourth game alone, outside hitters Liliom and Korobkova tallied seven and five kills, respectively. Six of their 13 kills in game four were after the score was tied 29-29. After three Cyclone game-points, K?State won 35-33.

Sophomore middle blocker Kelsey Chipman was the other Wildcat in double-digits, converting 12 kills on .375 hitting.

Playing against the Cyclones held special significance for Chipman because Iowa State setter Kaylee Manns played volleyball with Chipman in high school. Together, they won the 2005 6A state volleyball title at Washburn Rural High School.

"It's weird playing against her because she was my setter for eight years," Chipman said. "It's hard because I want her to do well."

Though Chipman was playing against her friend, Fritz did not see any less effort from the Topeka native.

"Chipman is a very mature and competitive player," Fritz said. "She plays hard no matter who is on the other side of the net."

Chipman amassed one solo block and four block assists. Her final block assist finished Iowa State at the end of game four.

Senior Angie Lastra recorded a match-high 23 digs, while senior Lauren Rosenthal and freshman Lauren Mathewson added 10.

K-State's main defensive concern was Cyclone outside hitter Erin Boeve. She had a match-high 17 kills on 49 attacks.

"(Boeve) is hard to slow down," Fritz said. "She just has a live arm. I thought that our outside blockers did a pretty good job of giving our middles some help blocking her."

Now that K-State is fourth place in the conference, Fritz said her team is looking to move toward the top.

"It's always our goal every year to be top three in the league," Fritz said. "Everybody is chasing Texas and Nebraska right now, and we would like to be at the top of those chasing."

The Wildcats will get another chance to improve their conference record Wednesday at Texas Tech. The game is scheduled to begin at 7 p.m.
