The K-State men's lacrosse team lost 18-1 to the University of Missouri Friday at the Great Rivers Conference playoffs in St. Louis. It was the last action of the season for the Wildcats, who were playing in their first-ever Division 1-A playoff game.

Sophomore midfielder Ben Coughlin said the 2008 season has been a success for K-State.

"One of the team's major goals was to make the playoffs this year," Coughlin said. "We accomplished that, so I would say it's been a good year. The season was a success as a whole."

Coughlin said a bigger, deeper Missouri team doomed the Wildcats in the long run.

"I think they traveled with about 25, but we only brought 16 guys," he said. "Depth and size were the biggest issue."

He said despite the lopsided outcome, the Wildcats played to the best of their abilities.

"Considering their advantage in depth and size, I think we did pretty well," he said. "I felt we performed as best as we could."

The loss caps off a season in which the Wildcats compiled a 7-7 overall record, including a 4-1 record in division play, and earned their first post-season bid in three years as members of the Great Rivers Lacrosse Conference. Prior to the season, the decision was made to split the conference into two subdivisions, and the Wildcats took advantage of the split by finishing the season atop the division standings.
