The K-State women's tennis team upset the seventh-seeded Nebraska Cornhuskers, 4-3, Thursday at the George P. Mitchell Tennis Center in College Station, Texas.
With the win, the Wildcats avenged a 6-1 loss suffered on Sunday in Lincoln.
The Wildcats (8-3) began the match in a dominating fashion by sweeping the doubles matches.
Senior Viviana Yrureta and sophomore Natasha Vieira started off the Wildcats' winnings with an 8-2 win over Amber Chandronnait and Stephanie Evans.
At No. 1, doubles senior Olga Klimova and junior Katerina Kudlackova topped the Intercollegiate Tennis Association's No. 52-ranked team of Jana Albers and Imke Reimers, 8-5.
Freshmen Vanessa Cottin and Antea Huljev captured their match against Wiveca Swarting and Maria Ring, 7-6. The Nebraska duo did not finish the match.
In singles play, the Wildcats fell in the first match as Albers downed Kudlackova 6-1, 6-1.
The Huskers took a 2-1 lead when Ashley Finnegan defeated Pauline Guemas 6-4, 6-3.
Huljev countered the Huskers' effort with a 6-4, 6-1 win over Swarting.
At the No. 5 spot, Chandronnait extended the Cornhuskers lead to 3-2 with a 7-6 (4), 6-0.
Then the Wildcats comeback began.
At No. 4 singles, Cottin had dropped her first set against Evans, 1-6, then took the next two sets for a 1-6, 7-6 (4), 6-4 victory.
With the outcome of the match in the balance, Yrureta avenged a Sunday loss against Reimers with a 6-1, 2-6, 7-6 (10) win.
The win sends the Wildcats into the Big 12 tournament quarterfinals today against number two-seeded Texas at 3 p.m.
