The K-State Ambassadors are selected at the conclusion of Homecoming week. The student body selected ambassadors serve to welcome student, alumni and friends of the university to K-State sponsored events. Here is their continuing story about the life of an ambassador:

With the school year having just ended and another summer beginning, Kara and I get a little time off from Ambassador duties until the beginning of July.

Before we left school however, there were a few more events that we attended and projects that we worked on:

Continuing to work on our "Ambassador Video" that we will show at upcoming Alumni events, we finished up filming and narration, and it is now in the hands of the film editors to complete the video before our events start up again in July. I'm looking forward to seeing how it will turn out and to be able to show it to K-State family all across the state!

One event that Kara and I spoke at before the semester ended was the K-State Class Ring Ceremony held at the Alumni Center. Kara and I followed Amy Button Renz, President and CEO of the Alumni Association, and spoke about the traditions of K-State. Following our speech, the K-State seniors in attendance were presented their class rings.

Starting in July, we will attend several more events throughout the summer, all the way up to the start of school. If we are coming to an event close to you, be sure to stop by and say hello! Schedules of events can be found at www.k-state.com.

We hope that you all are in the midst of an awesome and safe summer and look forward to seeing all of you in the fall!

Hi everyone!

I hope everyone's summer is going well - I can't believe how quickly Spring semester flew by, and the fact that it's already the middle of June!

Well, Spring semester was awesome to say the least. Robby and I had the privilege to give our presentation about the Top 5 things to do at KSU (Get involved, Exercise, Get an Education, KSU Sports, and Hanging Out with Friends) at our first Catbacker/Alumni Club dual event at the end of April in Beloit, Kan. Also present at the event was KSU Men's Basketball head coach Frank Martin; the voice of the KSU wildcats on the radio Wyatt Thompson; and current KSU football players Ian Campbell and Josh Freeman. The room was packed full of purple and excited alumni, and it was an incredible experience to see just how much dedication and pride the alumni have for our university. Let me just say that the food there was nothing but amazing, home-cooked goodness.

Robby mentioned above that we spoke at the 2008 Class Ring ceremony, and it was a great experience to have our class rings presented to us that day as well. I personally loved the ceremony ring presentation because my brother, who just graduated several weeks ago from KSU, and I received our rings at the same time and so we got to stand next to one another during the presentation!

During our speech, Robby and I spoke about K-State traditions and how each of us is a part of the K-State traditions that have been around since the day K-State was founded and we are also a part of the new traditions that are being created today. Whether we know it or not, these traditions are what bind us to past alumni and connect us to future students.

Overall, the ring ceremony was a great experience. The ceremony was held at the K-State Alumni Center, and families in attendance ranged from newborn babies to grandparents. Also, every student's ring had an overall similar design, but then each ring was individually unique with the person's graduation date, academic credentials, etc. inscribed upon it. What's interesting is that this overall ring design hasn't changed and won't ever change - this being yet another KSU tradition that connects its students together.

Also, like Robby said, our ambassador DVD, which is based on the same "Top 5," presentation we gave at the Catbackers/Alumni Club event, is almost finished and we are waiting to see the final product. It's exciting because this is the first year it has ever been done and it will hopefully continue to enhance communication for the university to prospective students as well as alumni.

Whew! Well, after all of that information, it's time for summer plans. In June, Robby will be an intern for Senator Pat Roberts in Washington D.C., and then will be an intern for First Command Financial Planning in July in Manhattan, KS. I will be an intern at the K-State Alumni Association, and taking lots of classes! I will also be giving a short presentation on behalf of the Alumni Association at Wildcat Warm-Up twice in June for incoming K-State students, but besides that, I won't present at any more alumni club events until July 7 in Paola, Kan. We hope you all have a safe and happy summer experience and we can't wait to see you in the fall.
