Owners of KU Billboard tired of repeated vandalism

The Kansas University sign just outside Paxico, Kan., sports a bit of purple among the crimson and blue against an overcast sky Wednesday evening. The sign has been vandalized on more than one ocassion.

Over the years, K-State has taken measures to advertise the university throughout the state of Kansas.

Some anonymous Wildcat supporters made their contribution Tuesday night when a University of Kansas billboard located east of Manhattan was hit with purple paint.

Gerry McGuire, Vice President of the Topeka Jayhawk Club - the organization who sponsors the billboard, expressed his dislike for the vandalism, which has happened on more than one occasion.

"I'd like to comment on it, but I don't think anything I'd say would be printable," McGuire said.

Kathleen Hickert, President of the organization, said the K-State Alumni Association paid to have the billboard replaced a year ago, when Wildcat fans painted EMAW in large purple letters across it.

The artists weren't as elaborate this time around as paint was splattered across the front of the billboard.

"We appreciate the spirit of cooperation between the two universities and it’s sad that a few people have to ruin that with pointless vandalism," Hickert said.

Hickert also said the club continues to replace the billboard because it wants to continue recognizing all of the state's Jayhawk supporters.

McGuire wasn't sure how many times the billboard has been defaced, but he said he's not sure it's worth the effort to continue replacing it.

"Eventually, we'll reach a point where we'll say 'enough is enough.' But kids will be kids. I wish it didn't happen, but I guess that's part of the process."

What a tool...Did you forget that your beloved KSU has a billboard hanging on I-70 between Lawrence & KC. Which is KU territory, But I don't see anybody vandalizing it.. And trust me when I say nobody in that part of the State cares to see that garbage everyday driving down I-70, except for the hicks driving in from Mancrappan for the weekend. KU is the flagship school in the state, And by far has a larger fanbase and following throughout the state, If you don't want to see KU Billboards then you probably need to move to another state. Get a clue KSUckers, Your program is small time anyway, and will always play second fiddle to KU Basketball. Go Big Blue!!

Bottom line here is that the KU folks put up a billboard 20 miles EAST OF MANHATTAN ON I-70!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

And you KU fans here are surprised that the sign was vandalized? Really?!?!?!!?

I think that say something about the intelligence level of the KU faithful.

It stands to REASON that if you put a billboard up in RIVAL TERRITORY, then youre going to have PROBLEMS arise.

Get a clue KU.

Funny, no more comments after this weekend's loss. Sorry no bowl game this year KU, I guess you can always look forward to basketball. It'll be fun to beat you in Manhattan again this year.

There's alot to be said for fans that stay fans through every type of weather. I have to admit even though im a KU fan, ksu fans continue to fight tooth and nail for their puniversity. Even though they may not be the most successful D2 excuse me division 1 school in the state, or midwest. I know some fellow hawk fans that have always been kind of quiet except during basketball season. And thats the difference between the 2 schools, most KU fans know to shut up when they suck. KSU on the other hand, good God you guys suck and still wont shut up about your school!!! Dont get me wrong, im commending you for that fact just as much as im bustin your balls. But all joking aside lets get real here wildcats, your athletic program was crap pre-Snyder and it climbed out from your 4-H cattle stalls and sat on the fence for awhile. Then post-Snyder... back in the mire you went. I wont even touch your basketball history, do I really need to. But most of all what cracks me up about Wildcat fans, is that you guys are so unsuccessful that you have to resort to pointing out KU's fairweather fans. It never fails, bag on a KSU fan about the ugly but true fact that they suck and what do they say 8 times out of 10....."Well all your fans are fake and only in fair weather!"...... Even if that were true.....at least KU has CONSISTANT FAIR WEATHER... and theres nothing you can say about that because its oh so true! Crimson & Blue!

We can't beat KU on the basketball court or the football field, so what can we do about that? ahhh.... Lets vandalize their billboards... I guess after cow tipping, & soil judging there's nothing else for a KSU fan to do. how sad!!!!

How many National championships has KSU's athletic department won? 0 ........ KU has 5 in basketball alone.
How many conference championships has KSU football won overall?..2..............KU has won 8 overall.

Who cares how many big 12 championships KU has won in football, Basketball is king in this state. The league has only existed for how long 12 years. KU is the flagship school in the State, of course there are going to be KU billboards up in different parts of the state. I see just as many KSU billboards up through out the State if not more, KU fans aren't vandalizing KSU billboards. Its obvious that KSU fans have an inferiority complex when it comes to KU. I guess when your little brother in the State, and you have an all time record of 90-191 against KU in Basketball, and your 36-65-5 all time against KU in football, Then it becomes clear that you KSUckers suffer from a major dose of jealousy. LOL @ Ksu fans for this. The only part of Kansas that is wildcat country is Mancrappen. This is, And always will be a Jayhawk State. And don't forget the KSUcks billboard that hangs between Lawrence & Kansas City in the heart of Jayhawk country that nobody cares to see everyday. KSU is a bonified mid major competing in the big 12 conference.
