Hundreds of students participated in the Gift Card Bingo event in the Student Union on Friday night for a chance to win one of 45 gift cards.

The Union Program Council held two different types of bingo. The first set of games were regular bingo. Students waited patiently as Laken Horton, junior in mass communications, called out the numbers.

The second type of bingo played was musical bingo. The UPC had a DJ playing various songs while students checked their cards to see if they had the song title.

Three different groups of music were played. The first category of music was from the 1990s, featuring songs such as “Wannabe” by the Spice Girls and “Baby One More Time” by Britney Spears. The second category of songs were from the 2000s, featuring songs like “Umbrella” by Rihanna, “Hips Don’t Lie” by Shakira and “Bleeding Love” by Leona Lewis. The final round consisted of songs popular today, like “Fetish” by Selena Gomez and “I’m the One” by DJ Khaled.

“It was so fun to just jam out to songs that we danced to in middle school and high school,” said Jenae Anderson, freshman in animal sciences and industry. “It was so much fun to sing along to all the songs with my friends.”

One of the winners of Friday’s bingo event was Arpine Kirakosyan, junior in mass communications. Kirakosyan won five dollars’ worth of Cat Cash.

“I always have fun at UPC events,” Kirakosyan said. “I usually have fun because I have won something at every single UPC event I have gone to. I plan on using my gift card for laundry.”

Since only 45 gift cards were given out, not everyone went home with a prize.

“I was a little disappointed to not have won any of the gift cards, but we did get free snacks, so that was a win in my books,” said Rachel Anderson, sophomore in marketing. Students were provided with free drinks and snacks throughout the event.

Gift Card Bingo is part of the UPC After Hours program, which provides students with a safe, substance-free entertainment program every Friday night. After Hours events also include poker tournaments, laser tag, comedians, hypnotists and magicians.
