The day after: Basketball style

1/18/09 11:49 PM

Let's see if I still remember how to do this -- it's been a while since I've last done this as I have been vacationing a little long. But let's move on. I haven't talked about basketball much to this point, which is sad, considering we are 17 games into K-State's schedule and conference play is in full swing. But I am into the thick of things. I am an eternal optimist. Yeah, I am one of those guys that thought the Wildcats would be able to overcome the loss of four starters, two of which are currently in the NBA, and still be okay. Part of me saw how down the Big 12 Conference is this year. I witnessed Big 12 North teams like Nebraska lose to the University of Maryland-Baltimore County. I saw Iowa State drop a game at home against South Dakota State and Colorado lose to Montana... 1 comment

Moving on to the offensive staff

12/11/08 12:29 PM

As most of you aleady know, the defensive staff is in place. Now let's move on to the offense. I believe the offensive coordinator is in place. I am led to believe this because of a quote from a recruit on the east coast yesterday who said co-defensive coordinator Chris Cosh was recruiting him. Cosh "called me and took my tape out there with him. I'm supposed to be talking to their offensive coordinator tomorrow." However, it is unclear who that offensive coordinator is that the recruit is talking about. I spoke to a source today knowledgable of the situation and he assured me that former San Diego State head coach Chuck Long was the No. 1 choice for the offensive coordinator position. The source added that he is still confident Long is the guy, but said he is unsure of... 4 comments

Cosh named Co-defensive coordinator

12/6/08 11:49 AM

From the K-State sports information department... MANHATTAN, Kan. – Kansas State head football coach Bill Snyder has announced that Chris Cosh, who has spent the last three seasons at Maryland leading the Terrapin defense, has been named Assistant Head Coach and Co-Defensive Coordinator for the Wildcats.   Cosh, who will have now served as a defensive coordinator in four of the six BCS conferences, will also oversee the linebacker position at K-State, a position he held under Snyder in 2004 and 2005. This past season, the Terrapins (7-5) ended the regular season 35th nationally in scoring defense (21.4 points per game) and were led by All-ACC performers Alex Wujciak at linebacker and Jeremy Navarre on the defensive line.   My thoughts: Yesterday I was awfully...

It appears it's Cosh

12/5/08 5:17 PM

This is from the Washington Post about K-State's future defensive coordinator: Breaking News: Cosh Returns to Kansas State Maryland defensive coordinator Chris Cosh will be returning to Kansas State as associate head coach and defensive coordinator, according to Cosh's wife, Mary. While Chris Cosh has roots in this area, he and his family also have very high regard for Kansas State Coach Bill Snyder, who recently came out of retirement to take over head coaching duties. Cosh spent the 2004 and 2005 seasons working as Snyder’s linebackers coach before Snyder retired. Snyder said in a phone interview in October that he had great respect for Cosh and his family and commended him for his recruiting and football mind. Snyder, who recommended Cosh to Maryland Coach Ralph Friedgen,...

Coaching search update...

11/23/08 8:10 PM

I haven't said much on the K-State coaching search as of yet. I have been sitting back and waiting. It has been a roller coaster ride and I thought I saw it coming to an end tonight or tomorrow, but that doesn't appear to be happening from what I am hearing. After spending 90 minutes standing outside of the Vanier Football Complex with some other media members, I concluded that the coaching search has not stopped. Sports information director Kenny Lannou arrived at approximately 6 p.m. and told us absolutely nothing was going on at the meeting. Everyone still stuck around as players slowly kept arriving for the 6:30 meeting. Athletic director Bob Krause arrived at 6:20 and walked in. The meeting was over by by 6:45 and the players and Krause all exited and said nothing. Except for...
