Pregame KU analysis; K-State basketball media day

10/30/08 10:30 PM

Now I am usually the guy that preaches balance for a football team to be successful.     But if K-State is to win Saturday, they need to spread the field and let Josh Freeman do his work. They need to throw the ball at least 65 percent of the time.     The reason why: KU is one of the worst teams in the nation at defending the pass. They are young in the secondary and have already moved a couple of players from offense to defense. They have also switched starting safety Justin Thornton to corner.        The Jayhawks come into the game with the 111th ranked defense in the country out of the 119 Division I football teams and are the third worst Bowl Championship team at defending the pass, allowing 271 yards... 0 comment

The Day After: Oklahoma

10/27/08 12:39 PM

Football is a crazy game. Momentum can swing in the blink of an eye. And K-State had its shot after falling behind 28-7. Credit to the Wildcats for not giving in and scoring 21 unanswered points to square the game up.     Want to know where this game turned and what everyone forgets about? With the game tied up at 28-28 and Oklahoma driving, Oklahoma went for a fourth and six from the 25-yard line, rather than kicking a field goal. They converted the fourth down and later scored a touchdown on that drive.     The crowd was on its feet and momentum was completely in K-State’s favor. If they would have held, there’s no telling what happens the rest of the game. After all, the Sooner defense had shown no promise up to that point... 1 comment

Update on Lamark Brown; Madness analysis

10/22/08 10:15 AM

Running back Lamark Brown is off of crutches and appears to be walking without a limp of any sorts. When asked Tuesday night how he was doing, he responded: “Just fine.”     Brown has been out for two weeks with a staph infection in his knee and his status has been an unknown. Coach Ron Prince said he would find out more later in the week on the injury. Brown left the Vanier Complex last Tuesday on crutches.     Brown is exercising with precaution. If not treated properly, staph infection could lead to amputation, and sometimes is deadly. UNC Asheville center Kenny George, who stands at seven-foot-seven and well over 300 pounds, recently had part of his foot amputated due to a staph infection he suffered.    ... 2 comments

The day after Colorado

10/19/08 7:49 PM

I said in my pregame analysis that this was a swing game for K-State. Well, they didn’t get the job done, obviously, and now face one of the toughest three-game stretches in the country with games against Oklahoma and on the road at both KU and Missouri.     What went wrong in Boulder? Well in case you didn’t get to watch the game, I’ll tell you.     K-State never really established a run game on the offensive side of the ball. On the first drive they threw the ball nine times and ran the ball twice. That’s not the type of balance that is going to equate to a lot of success on the road.     The offensive line did not play well. Colorado attacked K-State with numerous blitzes and had Freeman looking... 0 comment

Colorado pregame analysis

10/16/08 9:43 PM

It’s hard to put too much stock into one game, but I think this is a must win for coach Prince and his Wildcats. This game should gauge where the Wildcats are right now and which direction their season is going to go.     Just look at the schedule. If they lose to the Buffaloes, they could potentially go into a tailspin and not win another game this year. Beat the Buffs, and they go into the Oklahoma, KU and Missouri games with confidence and the hope of winning at least one of those three.     That would make them bowl eligible with Nebraska and Iowa State still remaining at home. Win Saturday, and the fan base is re-energized to a certain extent.     As I like to put it, this is the swing game in the season.... 0 comment

The day after

10/13/08 12:47 PM

Here’s the deal: I am looking to make this blog much more interactive.
I want those that read the blog to comment and I will ask them for
their thoughts every now and then about what they saw and what not. I
will be updating this thing more frequently now as well. My apologies,
I have been busy but that is no excuse.    Every day after the game I will be putting up an entry about what I saw
from the team and asking you for some of your thoughts. I will also try
to put up a preview of the next game that would usually go up on
Friday.    Also, before each game I will give updates on who didn’t travel with
the team on road games or who is hurt and even to as far as what
uniforms the Wildcats are wearing. So let’s give this a try,... 2 comments
