From the K-State sports information department...

MANHATTAN, Kan.Kansas State head football coach Bill Snyder has announced that Chris Cosh, who has spent the last three seasons at Maryland leading the Terrapin defense, has been named Assistant Head Coach and Co-Defensive Coordinator for the Wildcats.

Cosh, who will have now served as a defensive coordinator in four of the six BCS conferences, will also oversee the linebacker position at K-State, a position he held under Snyder in 2004 and 2005.

This past season, the Terrapins (7-5) ended the regular season 35th nationally in scoring defense (21.4 points per game) and were led by All-ACC performers Alex Wujciak at linebacker and Jeremy Navarre on the defensive line.

My thoughts: Yesterday I was awfully surprised. I didn't believe Cosh was the best of hires for Snyder. However, as co-defensive coordinator I believe it is a fine hire.

I was originally concerned how Cosh's defensive style would match up in the Big 12. He plays a 3-3 stack with a hybrid defensive end/linebacker who will sometimes make it a 3-4 or a 4-3. Sound familiar?

Anyways, the concern was Cosh's total defensive ranking was 60th in the nation this past season. Yet the Atlantic Coastal Conference only has one offense ranked in the top-26 in the nation compared to the Big 12 Conference which is full of explosive offenses. In fact, eight offenses in the Big 12 rank in the top-26 in the nation in total offense, quite a change for Cosh.

But K-State fans shouldn't be too alarmed with the hire.

A source who is close to the situation told me to expect former Clemson defensive coordinator Vic Koenning to be announced as the other defensive coordinator to work with Cosh. Koenning would be a home-run hire.

I'll break his defenses down more if he his hired and when their is a release.
