During Saturday's tailgates, an additional effort to catch minors consuming alcohol is scheduled, according to a K-State Police Department press release.

K-State police and agents from the Kansas Division of Alcohol Beverage Control plan to proactively enforce alcohol regulations in the parking lots and surrounding areas of Snyder Family Stadium during the game Saturday.

"The purpose of that kind of patrol is to reinforce responsible behavior," said Dalton Henry, student body president. "If students know the police will patrol more than normal, people will act responsibly and will have a good time."

The officers and agents said they plan to focus on underage drinkers and those who provided the alcohol to minors. The K-State Police Department will use grant money from the Kansas Department of Transportation to fund this alcohol enforcement team.

The press release stated this year in particular, K-State police have seen a sizable increase in large parties and quantities of alcohol being consumed compared to previous years.

Mr. Officer,

I didn't have a problem until you came up. The fact is that patrolling the parking lot is an easy way to accumulate money while irritating the crowd. I wish the the RCPD would show this much concern and effort when it comes to real crimes like murder, rape, child abuse, domestic violence, and burglary. Why isn't there funds from the school and the county founding those issues.

K-state isn't a "dry campus". They serve beer in the union.

The cops here suck. They want the easy money so they go after underage drinking. Here's an idea RCPD: protect and serve, something you haven't done in many, many years.

A couple of years ago my husband(age 55) was pouring a can into a cup and one of the so called cops with his swagger came up and wanted to give him a ticket for doing what everybody has done for years and years. It was absolutely ridiculous. He is a responsible drinker and since I don't drink I drive. But they don't do anything for the students passed out in the east side while my husband was trying to hand out water to them as a parent with 2 past college students.

It's a good thing we have money to provide for extra cops at tailgates because you know those underage kids that have a few drinks cause soooooooooo many problems. However when it comes to a rapist running around town the cops can't seem to stop that... Maybe someone could give the police money to stop REAL crime.

What if you are overage and are drinking? What happens then? I don't blame RCPD, I think that K-State needs to drop this silly "Dry Campus" nonsense it has going. You don't have to sell alchohol in the stadium or anything, just let us drink in the parking lot.

People are having fun and being responsible. It's the cops who need to chill out and let college kids be college kids like they once were.
