The Kansas State sophomore killed early Sunday morning in a Saline County car crash "was just amazing," said her fiancee, Kansas State sophomore and Army Reserve Specialist Kody Krier.
Meghan Will, 23, previously of Salina, had been engaged to Krier for the past year and transferred to KSU last semester to study human resources. She was a passenger in a car en route to her friend's house after a night of dancing at a club, according to Krier. Alcohol and speeding are suspected factors in the crash, according to Saline County Sheriff's Office Det. Matt Fischer.
"I don't know anything about that," Krier said. "I know she was at a club and they were coming back to a friend's house and lost control. I know she drank a couple before she left, but she wasn't driving. She had her seatbelt on. She did everything right."
First responders pronounced Will dead at the scene of the accident, which occurred at 2:05 a.m., according to Deputy Bernie Hoesli of Saline County Sheriff's Office.
Dustin Ringle, 25, of Salina, was driving the vehicle. He was transported to Salina Regional Health Center, according to Hoesli. Medical personnel treated him for a mild traumatic brain injury and released him Monday. Toxicology results are pending.
The vehicle was northbound on Ohio Street when it veered into a ditch and hit a culvert on the west side of the 2600 block. The car became airborne and spun 180 degrees, Hoesli said.
Krier, a newly transferred computer science major, moved with Will from Salina to Manhattan in December. He said his fiancee was known for her love of people and helping others.
"She loved animals, too. She had the biggest heart of anybody," he said.
Though Will may have only briefly been a K-State student, university staff also say she will be missed.
"Any time we lose a member of the K-State family, it's hard," said Anand Desai, associate dean for undergraduate programs in the College of Business. "We are very saddened by the untimely loss of her very young, promising life. She was a very good student.
"My prayers are with the family and that they can deal with this loss."
