Confessions

As part of the new look and feel to the K-State Collegian, the editorial board is finding new ways to incorporate different material into the Opinion page. In place of the Forum (R.I.P.), I have come up with a new outlet for student gripes. This new column will be called "Wildcat Confessions" and will be run every Friday. Participate if you please in the following manner:

Step 1. Got a dirty prank or idea? Did something terrible to your best friend? Come up with a ridiculously good prank or joke to play on your roommate or even your worst enemy. Or this can be something you have done in the past, but still makes a hilarious story.

Step 2. Confess your sins and darkest secrets to me in a 300 - 500 word letter of regret. E-mail to hmloftus@ksu.edu by each Wednesday.

Step 3. I read your dirtiest thoughts and publish the best one in the Collegian on Fridays. Just in time to start the weekend and begin your transgressions all over again.

I look forward to reading about your bad behavior.

Why are we, the student body, paying for this newspaper? It has no real journalistic value, it's opinion pages are infuriating to the general population of the school, and the most popular section of it... The Forum, is repeatedly on the chopping block. I'm assuming this is because it takes up space in the newspaper and prevents one more column written by the staff from being published.

An interesting side note - newspaper writing isn't about editorials or opinion pieces... it's about news. this news should be broken up by interesting entertaining things, such as crosswords or The Forum. Until this lack of connectivity the staff has with the readers is fixed, I will be gunning for cheaper tuition rates by removing funding from this tabloid.

I think getting rid of the collegian is a credible idea but this "confessions" idea is a horrible one indeed. It just shines light on the stupid things that people do and not about anything bright or cheerful.

We need something that amuses it's readers while keeping credibility and not some trash like the fourum to mess it up.

Can i opt out of funding this newspaper with my tuition money?

This is going to make the Collegian more worthless than it already is.

As a graduate 59 years ago this May I might add a thought to an idea that might have some merit for you to consider.

How about seeking out the good things that happen, are done as an assist, or just the good side of the happening. Instead of knocking people down, try to build them up. If K STATE is the school it once was I would the think that the Collegian newspaper would reap much better Kudos by publishing the brighter, kinder even helpful things that give a lonesome, alone, individual a ray of help, hope, recognition or an assist. With over 20, 000 students within your reach you have an unusual opportunity to go for the buildup of students rather than sneaking around to publish some sort of student knockdown. Just give it some thought.!!! Dan Huston

Here's an idea...let's stop using student privilege fee money (nearly 400K) to fund these morons who produce an opinionated and outrageously stupid paper. I don't like that some of my money supports these idiots.

I've been out in the world for a year and a half since graduating K-State and even I keep tabs on the forum. KEEP IT!

Without the Forum, the only thing the Collegian is good for is shredding up and tossing at the basketball games.

Future Blackmail for the Tabloids

I have never, ever seen an editor of the Collegian more out of touch with the readership. You say RIP to the Fourum, but you're the one that killed it you bint, so shut your mouth. And now you want to replace it with something that will put people in danger of having gross inaccuracies posted about them.

Guess what, sweetheart, anyone can make a fake email address and use someone else's name and major if they feel like they need to get revenge on them. How will you make sure these stories are in fact, sent by the person who claims to have sent it? Do you really expect anyone to be stupid enough to use their K-State email if they even entertain your idea at all? Or will you only accept submissions from @k-state.edu addresses so that you'll have blackmail material for your future in tabloid journalism?

This is good joke. Is this the first "prank" of 'Wildcat Confessions'?

Sorry, editors, but this is a really bad idea. I know the Fourum could be pretty filthy and therefore had to be edited and therefore brought liability on Student Publications. But how is this different? "I look forward to reading about your bad behavior." Seriously? I'd argue that this is worse. Now you're not only printing horrible things that students do, you're encouraging them to do it in the first place. This is a bigger liability. And that's only if students participate; I can tell you that you won't receive legitimate submissions to "Confessions." You should rethink this.

Confession: when I was but a simple freshman, I gave the Collegian an iota of credibility.

While I may be willing to see how the lack of a Fourum goes, I think this idea is really insulting the intelligence of the readers. If you're going to waste over 500 words for some "confession," why not make the Fourum a weekly event instead?

The forum is absolutely the only reason I read the collegian other than the sports page...the rest of it might as well be copied straight out of "the enquirer"... Oh wait..I think Beth Mendenhall already gets all of her articles there...

Really? Seriously? The forum was the only reason why I picked up a Collegian every day, and while I searched for The Forum, usually an article caught my eye that was interesting and then I read the article. But without a Forum, I really have no reason to pick up a paper. The comments within The Forum usually made my day better, everyone needs a good laugh; plus, The Forum, was anonymous, with this Confessions thingy we now have to leave our name, major, and whatnot about practical jokes we've pulled. Some of these jokes people have done are probably inappropriate and some cases illegal. Should our college paper, really be encouraging practical jokes that may be harmful to the receiver, and then the whole college knows who did it? At least The Forum, no one was really getting judged for things they did because no one knew who did it.

I think you guys should do a poll, to see what we, THE STUDENTS, want in our paper, since it is US that read it. In conversations with my friends, they were appalled when I told them there was no Forum any more and they won't be picking up a paper either. So there will be stacks of unread papers across Campus because the only readable material worthwhile was The Forum. You may want to rethink your strategies again.

I was so excited to read the forum now that the spring semester has started. But they are no longer printing it! Disappointing! and to top it off now they are going to print stories about people pulling pranks on each other! Seriously! Do we really want K-State to be known as a campus that encourages prank pulling? Bring back the forum or just stop printing the paper because there is no other reason to read it.
confessions really?
Fri Jan 15 2010 15:31
How seriously is it a confession if you are emailing the confression to that email? Don't when you email they have your name and your email. AT LEAST THE FORUM WAS SECRET!! come on your student collegian. do you not know what a secret is?? If the confession is illegal can't the confessions editior turn them in?

Yes, because this feature is sooo much more "newsworthy and credible." Really editors? Really? I want the Fourum back, not this tripe.
Really???
Fri Jan 15 2010 14:30
uhhh, is it me or does this seem to be a bit twisted. Are we trying to start Taxicab confessions? Letters to Penthouse? That isn't what a college paper should be about. How is this better than the fourum again?

Dear Wildcat Confessions,

I never thought this could happen to be but..... Two fantastic looking female UPS drivers arrived at my door to deliver a package, when to my surprise........

Get real.
