The Wildcats continued on their quest for a surprising season and beat the Colorado Buffaloes last week. They won 20-6 in a defensive game that featured little second-half offense.

After a K-State field goal, the Buffaloes drove down the field and scored a touchdown but hit the goal post on the extra point.

The game was already over after the first half as no points were scored in the second half, resulting in a less than thrilling game for spectators. Even with the Buffaloes’ two quarterbacks, they could not do anything on offense. K-State’s defense did well, but the offense struggled to put up more points when there were opportunities.

They fumbled on an option inside the 5-yard line and did not progress on consecutive drives after a few three and outs. Grant Gregory only threw for 80 yards, which was less than both Cody Hawkins and Tyler Hansen of Colorado.

Daniel Thomas finished with 145 yards rushing and a touchdown. Banks showed some signs of finesse in his moves but only had 14 receiving yards. Banks’s specialty is kick and punt returns, and that’s what he will most likely do in the NFL if he is drafted.

The Wildcats are a run-first team, especially when Gregory is at quarterback. The South Florida transfer is used to running options when he has the chance, because the Bulls often ran the option with him and Matt Grothe under center.

Next up for the Wildcats is Oklahoma. The Sooners will be without Heisman winner Sam Bradford, who still intends to enter the NFL Draft after having season-ending surgery. Even without him, they have a redshirt-freshman phenom in quarterback Landry Jones, who has shown some signs of promise in a couple games.

He has thrown for over 1,000 yards and 13 touchdowns with six interceptions. Without Bradford, the Sooners are still a dangerous team all around. They recently beat the Jayhawks in Lawrence, racking up 35 points and picking off quarterback Todd Reesing three times in one half.

The Sooners also have a dual threat of running backs in Chris Brown and DeMarco Murray. They have combined for over 800 rushing yards and eight touchdowns.

Ryan Broyles may be limited again against the Wildcats after suffering a right shoulder blade injury earlier in the season. The Wildcats will need to be firing on all cylinders for this matchup.

They travel to Norman, Okla., which is a bad sign, but with how they are sitting in the standings right now, they will still share a first-place spot in the North if they lose. Iowa State plays at Texas A&M this week and could pull off another upset like they did against Nebraska to tie the Wildcats.

The Wildcats have a great opportunity to take over the North if they can beat the Sooners. They are surprising many of their critics right now with the teams they are winning against.

I think the Sooners will give the Wildcats some trouble. They are hard to beat at home and have the advantage with the talent on the team. If the Wildcats are to win, their defense will need to play better than they have all season. I think the Sooners win at home 41-17.
