At the risk of coming off as a sufferer of attention deficit disorder, these are some random thoughts that occur to me every now and then — mini-columns, if you will. This is my fairly unconventional method of showcasing the unique and special mind that resides within me.

The vice presidential debate was much more exciting than the presidential debates have been so far. However, the presidential debates are much more important overall. This goes to show that good politics are not always good entertainment.

If the presidential race were a beauty contest, it would be Palin and Obama in a close race.

The greatest atrocities ever committed always have been governments acting against their own citizens. When governments have no one to hold them accountable, the people always lose.

Negative campaigns in elections make a big difference today. Who remembers any news from the 2004 presidential race other than Swiftboating and the National Guard?

Consumer advocates all seem to oppose free trade with other countries. How can they not realize that this denies consumers cheaper and better made products?

Former President Ronald Reagan once said facts are stubborn things. They sure do seem to loosen up in election years, though. Fortunately, factcheck.org gets to work on overtime to keep up.

Emotions are one of the hardest things to combat. Even the truth will get eaten up by a personal affront. People want to hear soothing things so much more than accurate ones.

The right wing accuses CNN of being biased against them, and the left wing claims Fox News isn’t quite so “fair and balanced” as it claims. There might just be the chance that both sides have it right.
