A woman was found dead behind a Manhattan hotel over the weekend, according to a Riley County Police Department report.
Police received a 911 call at 7:20 a.m. Sunday from a Quality Inn employee who discovered the body of 18-year-old Alheli Z. Alcantara lying behind the southeast corner of the hotel.
Because the hotel is in an area of Manhattan that spills into Pottawatomie County, the Pottawatomie County Sheriff’s Office is also involved in the investigation.
After identifying the victim early Monday and notifying her family, the departments called a joint press conference to publicize the case.
The police are looking for the victim’s vehicle, a “light-colored” 1991 Toyota Previa with a Kansas tag, 980 BCK. The headlight on the driver’s side is out and there is no wiper on the back windshield.
Police also said there is a K-State sticker in the window of the van, but the windows are tinted, which could make the sticker hard to see.
RCPD Capt. Tim Hegarty said anyone who sees a van matching the description needs to call 911 or Riley County Crime Stoppers at 785-539-7777.
“We would rather get a call on every Toyota Previa than to miss the real one,” Hegarty said.

Alheli was the sweetest girl. She was in my Geometry class back at Garden City High School Freshmen year. It breaks my heart to know that she is truly gone. We will all miss you.

My heart shattered when I heard about what she had to go through. My heart goes out to her family and friends I can only imagine what they are going through right now. I've lost family but losing my own child would destroy me. She didn't deserve this. She was still so young and had so much life ahead of her. The guy that did this to her is a monster and deserves to rot in prison. R.I.P Alheli you will be truely loved and missed.
Your name
My heart goes out to her family. Both her mother, Margarita, and sister, Liz, were students at Kansas State University. Any information is should be reported immediately and would be very beneficial to the investigation. May she rest in peace.
