Injury report
Junior offensive tackle Edward Prince and sophomore defensive tackles Xzavier Stewart and Gabriel Crews were not seen on the sideline against Montana State.
Coach Ron Prince said he expects the return of most of the players who missed the Montana State game, including senior offensive tackle Ben Liu, who has been out with a knee injury he suffered in the 2008 Spring Game. Liu was seen in uniform on the sideline against Montana State, but he did not participate. He started 10 games last year for the Wildcats at right offensive tackle. “We anticipate having Ben Liu back,” Prince said. “We anticipate having basically everybody. We’ll see. We’ve got a couple of days to see exactly how it’s going to turn out, but I anticipate having almost everybody there.”
Sophomore defensive back Kendrick Matthews, who has yet to dress this season for the Wildcats, was seen on the sidelines with crutches Saturday night.
Prince also said that the status of suspended junior running back Leon Patton has not changed.
National honors
Junior defensive back Courtney Herndon was named the Walter Camp Football Foundation National Defensive Player of the Week on Sunday. Herndon blocked a punt that was returned for a touchdown, intercepted a pass and returned it 26 yards, and returned a fumble for a 43-yard touchdown against Montana State.
Herndon was also named Big 12 Co-Defensive Player of the Week for his performance against the Bobcats. It’s the second week in a row a Wildcat player has garnered Big 12 Player of the Week honors. Josh Freeman was named Big 12 Co-Offensive Player of the Week for his performance against North Texas.
Getting Efficient
Junior quarterback Josh Freeman ranks fifth in the country in pass efficiency and in passing yards per attempt with 11.6. His quarterback rating of 209.29 is the top mark of all Big 12 quarterbacks. Freeman’s completion percentage of 75.6 percent ranks him 10th in the country through two games.
