The K-State women’s basketball team defeated the Huskies of Washington University (4-5) 73-60 Tuesday evening for its record 12th consecutive win to open the 2008 campaign. The Wildcats surpassed the 1968-69 squad that began its season with 11 consecutive victories.

With the win, the 18th ranked Wildcats (12-0) completed their final nonconference road trip of the season and return home Jan. 3 to face Central Arkansas before opening conference action against in-state rival Kansas.

Following the two-game series against Pac 10 Conference opponents, Wildcats also improved their record to 8-8 against opponents from the Pac 10.

Senior point guard Shalee Lehning recorded her fourth career triple-double, breaking her own Big 12 record set earlier this season. Lehning tallied 19 points, 10 rebounds and delivered 10 assists. With the 19 points she surpassed 1,000-point milestone for her career.

Junior forward Ashley Sweat scored a game high 22 points, and senior forward Marlies Gipson continued her dominating defensive presence, as she collected six blocks to bring her career total to a school record 217.
