Woman charged with worker’s compensation fraud

An investigation by the Kansas Attorney General’s office has led to the arrest of a Manhattan woman for alleged worker’s compensation fraud.

Maryanne Pittman, 51, was charged Monday with allegedly knowingly accepting benefits from worker’s compensation she was not entitled to, said Riley County Police Department Lt. Kurt Moldrup. The offense allegedly occurred between Jan. 2 and Jan. 16, 2008, with a total loss of $1,144.

Cattle reported stolen

Fink Beef Genetics reported the theft of 18 cattle, according to another RCPD report. The cattle, worth $32,162 in all, were allegedly purchased at an auction on July 31, 2007 and never paid for.
