Brownback declares state of disaster emergency

Gov. Sam Brownback declared the state of Kansas to be in a state of disaster emergency on Tuesday.

According to the 2003 Kansas Disaster Assessment Program, a state of disaster emergency is, “the condition proclaimed by the governor when, in his/her judgment, the actual occurrence or threat of a disaster in any part of the state is of sufficient severity and magnitude to warrant disaster assistance by the state to supplement the efforts and available resources of the several localities and relief organizations in preventing or alleviating the damage, loss, hardship or suffering threatened or caused thereby.”
