Dear Fellow K-Staters,
I hope you all had a chance to get out and enjoy the beautiful weather this weekend. The game in Ames, Iowa on Saturday was a close one, but I’m glad our Wildcats were able to pull off the comeback win. I’m already looking forward to next Thursday when Auburn comes to town.
Last week, we listened to presentations from five architecture firms competing for the K-State Student Union renovation contract. We’re happy to announce that, pending fee negotiations, Bowman Bowman Novick, Inc., and Workshop Architects, Inc., will take on the project. Workshop, a firm based in Milwaukee, Wisconson was in charge of the initial design and project proposal, and we’re excited to see them continue on in the process. Bowman Bowman Novick, a Kansas City, Missouri-based firm with an office in Manhattan, has been involved in a number of projects at K-State, including renovations to Hale Library, the Chi Omega sorority house and the Alpha Tau Omega fraternity house. We were impressed with the ideas from both firms and the importance they placed on gathering student input. We will need your help and feedback throughout the year to ensure that our Union turns out the way we want it to.
Cody and I attended the K-State Day at the Fair at the Kansas State Fair on Sunday and had an awesome time. I took part in the Ninth Annual Grape Stomp Competition against Wichita State student body president Matt Conklin – unfortunately, I came up a bit short to end K-State’s winning streak. Better luck to next year’s president! Thanks to all those who went to the fair on behalf of K-State. We had a pep rally, an informational booth and every college and major department was represented.
Finally, we are in the early stages of planning a North Campus Corridor. I’m representing the interests of the student body, along with representatives from K-State Athletics, K-State Agriculture, Faculty Senate, the Office of the President, the City of Manhattan and other key stakeholders. This week, we’ll be hearing presentations from four finalists and will decide who will develop the project.
I wish everyone a great week, and, as always, please feel free to reach out if you have any questions, comments or concerns.
Go Cats!
