K-State heads to Iowa City to face first Big Ten foe of the season

Following a 12-day break from action, K-State women’s tennis (6-6) will travel north to Iowa City, Iowa on Sunday to face the Iowa Hawkeyes at noon.

The Wildcats have won four of their last five matches heading into the meet, which will be the first matchup against a Big Ten Conference opponent this season.

K-State last faced the Hawkeyes (4-4) in Iowa City, Iowa on Feb. 6, 2011. K-State came out on top, 6-1, but Iowa holds the all-time series lead 5-2.

Sophomores Iva Bago, Livia Cirnu and Palma Juhasz have led the Wildcats in singles play in recent weeks. Bago leads the team with 14 wins this season, including a 4-2 mark at number two singles.

Cirnu and Juhasz are close behind Bago with 13 wins each this season and hold 3-0 records at No. 2 and No. 3 singles, respectively.

After Sunday’s match, K-State will kickoff Big 12 play by hosting TCU on March 13 at 11 a.m.
