K-State women’s tennis will head to this weekend’s Big 12 Championship on a six-match losing streak after dropping a pair of matches in Texas over the weekend to conclude the regular season.

The Wildcats (8-15, 1-8) fell by a slim margin to Texas on Friday, 4-2. The Longhorns secured the doubles point and an early 2-0 lead with wins coming at No. 1 and No. 3 doubles.

K-State, however, put Texas on its heels with two singles victories to tie the match 2-2. Due to inclement weather, the remaining singles matches were moved inside where the Longhorns downed the Wildcats, but not without a fight from freshman Carolina Costamagna.

Baylor then downed K-State 4-0 Sunday in the final regular-season match. Sophomore Livia Cirnu was defeated for the first time in four singles matches, and the Wildcats moved to 1-6 on their seven-match road trip.

The Wildcats will head back to Waco, Texas on Thursday as they compete in the Big 12 Championships next weekend.
