Inconsistent play across the board spelled doom for the K-State men’s golf team at the Hawkeye Invitational in Iowa City, Iowa. Stumbling out the gate on day one, the Wildcats finished Sunday’s final round in 10th place with an overall team score of 31-over par 895.
“It was a tough day for us,” head coach Grant Robbins said to K-State Sports following the first day of the tournament. “We were not sharp in any phase of the game and it makes it difficult to score.”
Sophomores Matt Green and Seth Smith led the five-man group with a 36th and 38th-place finish, respectively. Sophomore Hank Simpson battled on the back nine Sunday to score four birdies help him finish tied for 46th at 10-over par 226
Up next for the Wildcats is the Big 12 Championships next Monday in Tulsa, Oklahoma.
