The San Antonio Spurs assistant coach Becky Hammon was named head coach of the Spurs’ summer league team, making her the first woman in NBA history named to the position.

Last year, the Spurs broke their first gender barrier as they hired Hammon as the first full-time female assistant coach not only in NBA history, but also in NFL, MLB and NHL history.

Hammon is a South Dakota native that was an All-American at Colorado State and a six-time WNBA All-Star during her time on the San Antonio Stars and the New York Liberty.

News of Hammon’s new position has been met with acclaim with both fans on social media…

and NBA players.
