#Hashtag: Nurses speak out after insults from hosts of “The View”

Sunday, Kelley Johnson, Miss Colorado winner, gave a speech about her career as a nurse for the talent portion of this year’s Miss America Pageant.

On Monday’s “The View,” co-host Michelle Collins poked fun at Johnson’s monologue, saying that Johnson “…basically read her emails out loud — and shockingly did not win. She helps patients with Alzheimer’s, which is not funny, but I swear, you had to see it.”

Another co-host of “The View,” Joy Behar, added, “Why does she have a doctor’s stethoscope around her neck?”

This sparked much controversy online. Nurses and supporters took to Twitter to defend nursing, as a profession, against remarks from “The View.”

Collins continued to mock Johnson via Twitter.

This earned more backlash from nurses and supporters of nursing.
