K-State cross country, tennis record several top-five finishes

The Kansas State women’s tennis team had a fairly successful showing at the OU Fall Invite tennis tournament in Norman, Oklahoma this past weekend.

Sophomore Sara Castellano and freshman Ana Garcia Navas each won three matches. Castellano bested TCU’s Alexis Pereria by a score of 6-2,6-3 to capture the third place spot in the Boomer Draw.

Garcia Navas, meanwhile, tallied a victory over TCU’s Olaya Garrido-Rivas, 5-7, 6-2, 6-2.

As for doubles, the team of junior Iva Bago and sophomore Carolina Costamagna won three of their four matches this weekend, defeating North Texas’ Anastasiya Shestikova and Agustina Valenzuela 6-4. Bago and Costamagna later went on to beat Tulsa’s Saana Saarsteinen and Renata Kuricova 6-4.

Kansas State plays next at the SMU Fall Tournament Oct. 9-11 in Dallas.

Cross Country

The Wildcat men placed fourth and the women finished fifth in their third races of the season.

The men were led by runners sophomore Colton Donahue, junior Jeff Bachman, and junior Bryan Zack. Donahue notched a 10th-place finish with a time of 25:23.1. Bachman finished 22nd recording a time of 26:09.3 and lastly, Zack managed to run a 26:19.2 for a 25th place finish.

The women meanwhile were led by fifth-place finisher junior Morgan Wedekind and 20th-placed sophomore Kayla Doll.

Wedekind threw down an impressive 21:26.9, while Doll ran a strong race of 22:10.4.

Kansas State has a good while before their next meet, which will take place in Peoria, Illinois, to participate in the Bradley Classic on Oct. 16.
