Workers of fast food restaurants, and some workers of other institutions that generally offer minimum wage for pay, from all over the nation went on strikes today, demanding that their minimum wages be raised to $15 per hour.
Protesters rallied outside of their workplaces and spread their message via social media. On Twitter, strikers and supporters tagged tweets “#FightFor15” in advocation of their cause.
Some politicians, including Bernie Sanders, who spoke in person at a minimum wage rally on Capitol Hill, were amongst those who tweeted using the hashtag, advocating for a change in minimum wage.
I don’t believe it is a terribly radical idea to say that someone who works 40 hours a week should not be living in poverty. #FightFor15

Others tweeted out the under hashtag, as well, in support.
$15/hr will not make anyone rich, but it will help get them out of poverty. It covers the basics of a decent life for families. #FightFor15

If you're an elected official & you won't stand with workers in the #Fightfor15, don't bother asking for my money or my vote.

I don't care how simple your job is, if you work 40 hrs/week & can't pay rent, buy food, & pay bills you deserve a higher wage. #FightFor15
