K-State football and men’s basketball both garnered praise from the Big 12 on Monday as both senior cornerback and kick returner Morgan Burns and junior forward Wesley Iwundu were named Big 12 Players of the Week.
Burns set a school record for most-kickoff yards in a game with 221 yards, breaking Aubery Quarles previous record of 197 yards versus North Texas in 2010.
Burn’s 221 yards were the most in the Big 12 since Texas’s Fozzy Whittaker put up 252 yards versus Oklahoma State in 2010.
Burns started off last week’s 59-44 loss versus Texas Tech with a 93 yard kick-off return for a touchdown.
Meanwhile, Iwundu was named Philips 66 Co-Big 12 player of the week with Baylor’s Rico Gathers.
Iwundu recorded his first 20 point game of his career first Maryland-Eastern Shore on Friday recording 22 points and 10 rebounds.
It was iwundu’s first double-double since putting up 10 points and 10 rebounds versus Oklahoma State his freshman year.
Iwundu’s award marked the 25h Big 12 honor for K-State since the Big 12 was established in 1997.
K-State football plays Iowa State this Saturday at 11:00 a.m. while men’s basketball takes on Columbia tonight at 8:00 pm.
