FBI joins vandalism investigation

The FBI is now the lead agency on the investigation into vandalism of a Manhattan resident’s car.

According to a release from the Riley County Police Department, the case is being investigated as a hate crime. The RCPD will continue to assist in the investigation.

The vandalism was first reported to the RCPD at approximately 7:25 a.m. Wednesday. The car in question was parked in the 2220 block of Claflin Rd. bore racial slurs and a threat in what appears to be yellow paint. It is estimated that the vehicle was defaced in the early hours of Wednesday morning, between 1:30 and 3 a.m. Dauntarius Williams, 21, is listed as the victim in the RCPD’s report.

The RCPD asks anyone with information to contact them, the FBI or the Manhattan and Riley County Crime Stoppers.
