Kansas State Tennis sent freshman Rosanna Maffei to Norman, Oklahoma, to compete in the International Tennis Federation professional event over the weekend.
Maffei faced Russian Nina Khmelnitckaia in the first round, taking her to three sets in a hard-fought battle that went to Khmelnitckaia in the end (6-0, 3-6, 6-2).
The young Italian player finished her first semester with K-State 5-3 in overall singles play.
This tournament wraps up the semester for K-State Tennis. The next match will be against the University of Missouri-Kansas City on Jan. 18 in Kansas City, Missouri.
