Author, speaker and success coach Mitch Matthews encouraged students to share their dreams and aspirations Tuesday during the BIG Dream Gathering.

The event, sponsored by American Family Insurance and the Kansas State College of Business Administration, aimed to provide an entertaining and encouraging environment for students to voice their goals and provide the stepping stones for making those dreams a reality. This first people to arrive at the gathering received a free copy of Matthews’ best-selling book, “IGNITE.”

The BIG Dream Gathering was inspired by Matthews’ life experiences. Over the years he has spoken at more than 100 of these events all over the country.

“It started in my house in ’06,” Matthews said. “I started on my own dream, and I was ready to give up. I asked my friends for help, and I asked them their dreams. They kept dreaming and encouraging, and soon they brought their friends and more and more came into a big gathering.”

At Tuesday’s gathering, students could connect with K-State alumni from big-name companies who could potentially provide meaningful connections.

Rebecca Gould, business career coach, said she was impressed by the event.

“I’m impressed with the set up, like Mitch is so positive,” Gould said. “It makes people feel special.”

Kurt Roberts, executive director of career development in the College of Business Administration and lead business career coach, was in charge of the event, which was free to all students and to the public.

“It’s for the younger, or actually, all students to see what they wanted to accomplish and to think of ideas beyond their reach,” Roberts said.
