K-State Sports Briefs: July 3

Head baseball coach Pete Hughes hired Cord “Buck” Taylor as the pitching game coordinator for Kansas State. K-State Sports reports that Taylor spent 14 seasons coaching at Palomar Community College and sent 21 pitchers into the professional league. Under his lead, the Palomar Comets finished with a 434-181 record.

One of K-State’s volleyball players earned a spot on the 2018 Preseason All-Big 12 Volleyball Team. On June 27, the conference announced that redshirt senior Kylee Zumach, who played every set for the Wildcats in 2017, snagged the honor for the second time since 2015.

The Big 12 awarded offensive lineman Dalton Risner the title of 2017-2018 Male Sportsperson of the Year. According to K-State Sports, Risner is the third Wildcat and the first male to win the award. Earlier this year, Risner started the RiseUp Foundation to motivate people to “be a positive shining light in the lives of others.”
