Kansas state sponsored an event welcoming experts in the field of indigenous studies to speak on important issues that still occur for Native American communities today. While the event focused on celebrating many aspects of Native American culture, those invited to speak aimed to educate students on the importance of research remaining local and responsive to these individual populations and maintaining research that is productive.
One speaker was Dr. Maggie Walter, a professor of sociology from the university of Tasmania. Her studies are centered around the bias of quantitative research on indigenous peoples populations.
