Channel 8: Food deserts prevalent in rural Kansas

The issue of food deserts plagues many small town communities in the Kansas area. To raise awareness on this issue K-State journalism students are hard at work producing a documentary that covers the small town of Cuba, Kansas. The documentary covers the local residents and their struggles to purchase fresh produce without a local grocery store.

In addition to the documentary, K-State also reaches out to these communities under the direction of David Procter. David is the Director of Community Engagement for K-State who works hand in hand with these communities.

Together with the documentary and the work of David Procter, K-State hopes to raise awareness on this issue.
