MESI, or the Manhattan Emergency Shelter Incorporated, is a leading force in assisting the less fortunate. Unfortunately, they have been undergoing repairs since mid-march, due to damages caused by a major leak on the second floor.
Youth and family documentary film maker Diane Nilan makes her way through Manhattan from time to time, with the assistance of MESI Channel 8 reporter Zeb Willey managed to catch her in her brief visit to discuss the signs of homelessness in a community. Diane is the founder of a non-profit called HearUs, a group offering resources and information for those concerned about homeless children, teens and families.
With winter months approaching, MESI is set to reopen their doors in early November, a welcome relief for those in need.
