A pair of golfers from the men’s and women’s teams will be recognized as the Collegian Athletes of the Week for the past week.
Junior Ben Fernandez is the recipient from the men’s team. The team competed at the Steelwood Collegiate Invitational over the weekend.
Fernandez was the biggest spark for the Wildcats, leading them to a ninth place finish as a team. Individually, Fernandez finished with a score of even-par 216 to tie for seventh place.
Heather Fortushniak represents the women’s golf team as a result of her 12th place tie performance in the University of Texas at Arlington Invitational last week.
Fortushniak finished with a score of 14-over-par 227 in the individuals only tournament. Her impressive performance included a 1-under-par 70 and four birdie performance last Tuesday.
Women’s golf head coach Kristi Knight told K-State Sports after the tournament that she was “happy to see Heather turn in an under-par round.”
Both teams have completed their fall schedules and will resume play in February.
