The Kansas State women’s basketball team defeated the Oklahoma Sooners 86-56 Saturday in Bramlage Coliseum.
The Wildcats’ starting five were in full force Saturday; combined, they accounted for 71 of the 86 points.
Four of the five starters – senior guard Kayla Goth, junior forward Peyton Williams, sophomore guard Rachel Ranke and freshman guard Christianna Carr – reached double-figure scoring. Senior forward Kali Jones was right behind them with eight points.

The Wildcats began the game on a 10-0 run that began with a three-pointer by sophomore guard Ranke and ended on a field goal made by Williams. They would control the game and maintain the lead from that point on.
Oklahoma was able to make it a two-point game 13-15 at 1:01 in the first period on a jumper made by freshman guard Jessi Murcer, but that was the closest the Sooners got to claiming the lead.
K-State converted its last six field goals of the first half to go into halftime with a comfortable 44-25 lead. K-State shot an exceptional 63 percent on field goals and made six of 11 three-pointers. The Sooners shot just 35 percent on field goals and made just three of nine three-pointers. The Sooners were just unable to keep up with the Wildcats’ hot shooting in the first half, a big reason why they trailed by a big margin at halftime.
Oklahoma’s shooting struggles continued in the second half, as the team shot 22 percent in field goals and converted only two of 13 three-pointers. The Wildcats weren’t as hot as they were in the first half but still shot a solid 47 percent.
Overall, Oklahoma shot 28 percent on field goals and K-State shot 54 percent.
The Wildcats’ defense was also a big part of the blowout victory; they forced the Sooners to commit 24 turnovers. K-State took advantage of those miscues with 32 points on the other end of the floor.
This was the Wildcats’ largest margin of victory this season, and they remain undefeated at home with an 8-0 record.
The Wildcats advanced to 10-4 (1-1) on the season after this conference win.
The Wildcats will now head to Waco, Texas, to take on the Baylor Bears on Wednesday. The game will tip off at 7 p.m. and will be broadcast on K-State HDTV and the Fox Sports Go app.
