After campus closures due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Hale Library is now offering a book pick-up service.
Patrons can go online to request any items that are currently located at the Annex — which is the library’s off-site storage facility. Once the items are at Hale, patrons will receive a notification email that requests they make an appointment to pick up their materials. Items will be placed on a book cart inside the first-floor entrance at the designated pick-up time.
“We were able to create a workflow with no direct contact with our staff. Additionally, all returned materials will undergo a 72-hour quarantine,” Darchelle Martin, director of communications and marketing for the libraries, said.
People will be able to walk in and pick up their items while the staff waits on the other side of the glass doors.
Martin said it’s important to remind people that Hale still doesn’t have access to its full physical collection yet.
“Most of our physical collection remains in other storage units, primarily in Kansas City,” Martin said. “They recently finished cleaning all those materials after the fire. We are about to begin the process of sorting those materials.”
All library locations are currently closed to the public while staff works out a plan to safely reopen.
