For 24 hours, a Twitter poll asked students if they’ve received their flu vaccine yet.

“The challenge this year is that you’re trying to delineate between normal viral illnesses that we see every year and COVID-19. It’s why we’re pushing — not that we don’t usually push — the influenza vaccination part,” Dr. Kyle Goerl, Lafene Health Center medical director, said. “It’s particularly important this year. We really don’t know what happens on a large scale with co-infection of influencing COVID-19 but it certainly gives me concern.”

Of the 124 respondents, 53 percent indicated they received their flu shot this year. Another 41 participants said they haven’t yet, but “will” get it.

The final 30 respondents said they haven’t and they “don’t plan to” get their flu vaccine this year.
