This week in K-State Sports: Baseball travels to Waco, track team stays in Manhattan

This week, the baseball team hits the road and the track and field team stays in Manhattan.

After a win over Missouri and a three-game sweep of Texas Southern last week, the Kansas State baseball team (27-16, 6-9) travels to Waco, Texas, to take on Baylor (27-13, 7-8) in a three games series this weekend.

This is the first match-up between the two teams this season.

The first pitch for game one is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. Friday and will be televised on Big 12 Now on ESPN+. KMAN will have the radio broadcast.

After the four games over this past week, the Wildcats are on a season-high six-game winning streak.

Track and field

After inclement weather cut the Texas A&M Alumni Muster meet short, the Wildcats will stay in Manhattan this Friday and Saturday for the Ward Haylett Invitational.

Some Wildcats participated in the Rock Chalk Invitational in Lawrence over the weekend as well. A trio of freshman — Hadley Spechter, Jaybe Shufelberger and Kerby Depenbusch — won the 3,000-meter steeplechase, women’s 5,000 meter and men’s 5,000 meter, respectively, in Lawrence.

The Ward Haylett Invitational is the first home meet for the Wildcats in the outdoor track season.
