Police standoff ends with 79-year-old man in custody

Officers from the Riley County Police Department and Kansas State Campus Police responded to a person in crisis in the 1000 and 1100 blocks of Bluemont Avenue Wednesday afternoon.

Multiple officers arrived on the scene to talk down a 79-year-old man who appeared to be in crisis. The man was armed and standing outside of his vehicle.

The standoff ended as RCPD officers fired rubber bullets and apprehended the man, who was then transported to Via Christi for further evaluation.

Officers have since cleared the area as of 12:38 p.m.
